Thank you for loving me the way that you do! Yours is unique among all mothers. I remember how you could be tough as nails when coming to my defense, yet cry at the ugly words of one of my classmates. You taught me that being a strong person requires both feeling and putting feelings aside at times, and that being a wise person required discerning that difference.
You let me learn things for myself, which I found impossibly aggravating at the time, but understand now that those are the lessons I have never had to re-learn. You encouraged me to explore the world close at hand and farther abroad and you raised me to be color blind. All of these things have, I'm sure, been trying for you at times, but have benefitted the adult I have become.
Your efforts have not gone unnoticed or unappreciated by me, though, they were left too long unmentioned. So I thank you, again, and again for loving me the way that you do. I couldn't be who I am without you!
